William Copeland McCalla’s Wild Flowers of Western Canada, Reworked
Canadian botanist, photographer, and author William Copeland McCalla is probably best known for his 1920 book Wild Flowers of Western Canada. Mr. McCalla captured the eponymous flowers on a series of glass lantern slides, which he then beautifully hand colored. Mr. McCalla’s volume contains color plates reproducing sixty of them. Digital scans of those color plates and other of Mr. McCalla’s works are available from the Provincial Archives of Alberta through its Flickr page.
